Today, the NL Alliance Provincial Executive announced that nominations of candidates in the upcoming General Election for all 40 Provincial Districts will open tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21, 2020.
“We’re excited to take this step in preparing for the next General Election,” said NL Alliance President, Rudy Norman. “We believe by starting now, we can open the opportunity for potential candidates to come forward, who are passionate about reform and helping to make this province stronger into the future.”
Nominations will remain open in all Districts until the Provincial Executive announces their closure. The nomination in a particular District will officially close five consecutive days following the closure announcement. This allows time for any last minute applications, should more individuals wish to apply.
Any NL resident of legal age can fill out the online application and potentially become a candidate. NL Alliance does not have a membership or supporter status, and feel as many people as possible should have a voice.
“We aren’t exclusive or limiting in who can apply,” continued Norman. “Despite a person’s past political allegiance, we want them to feel that their voice matters, and they’re allowed to have their own opinion on issues. We’ve certainly seen the opposite of that in our province in the past, but we’re looking to lead by example and show people how the system should work.”
After applying, applications and potential candidates are reviewed by the NL Alliance Candidate Vetting Committee. Those who are accepted to be a candidate in a District are asked to pay a $100 non-refundable application fee.
“We’re certainly seeing both interesting and troubling times in the world, and especially in our Province,” concluded Norman. “If there’s ever been a time for us to gather our best people and make a change to protect our future, it’s now.”
To apply, individuals are invited to fill out the online form at www.nlalliance.ca/run
