I wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update to the many people who have shown concern over the past days regarding my recovery.

On January 17 I underwent emergency bowel surgery. After the surgery, my doctors and I hoped the recovery would be smooth and leave me without the pain and discomfort I was experiencing prior to the operation. Unfortunately, I have experienced some setbacks. As a result, my recovery time has been, and will continue to be, a longer process than we hoped. At this time I remain in hospital, receiving further care and treatment.

With that consideration in mind I suspended my campaign in Humber-Gros Morne. However, I have been keeping a careful eye on the provincial election and I’m proud of the issues our NL Alliance Candidates and team are bringing forward.

I feel it’s important to thank each and every person who has reached out through so many mediums to offer their thoughts and support as I recuperate. Most of all my wife, Debbie, has been a constant source of strength and support, as she always is, along with the rest of my family and close friends.

Finally I would like to publicly thank the incredible doctors, nurses and all medical staff at Western Health for the incredible care I’ve received over the last several days. It is the workers on the front lines caring for those who need it most who are the real heroes of this province.

Once again, thank you all so much, and I look forward to a full recovery and continuing to have the conversations and advocating for issues that matter most to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
