Guiding Principle Four

We value peace, freedom, democracy, equality, the multiple cultures and diversity within Newfoundland and Labrador, for it makes us stronger and defines our identity.

NL Alliance believes all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are entitled to a safe and caring society free of discrimination, harassment, bullying and abuse.

We will work with the RNC/RCMP, first responders, schools and other agencies to combat crime with drug prevention programs, rehab programs and anti-bullying programs. We believe education is crucial to prevention. We agree that building a penitentiary to replace the aged and insufficient HMP for those who require incarceration and/or rehabilitation, is long overdue.

“Democracy is a system in which citizens are entitled to vote and take part in decisions.” NL Alliance believes through political/electoral reform, fair elections, and better representation, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador will become more engaged in the decisions that affect all of us.

We believe all citizens are valuable to our society. We will work with seniors to assure them of their safety, care and dignity. NL Alliance believes education is the key to our youth having a future here in this province and will work with schools through various programs to ensure all students are given equal opportunities. We will support bridging programs for those with disabilities in the transition between school and the workplace. We will work with people with disabilities to ensure they have equal opportunities and accessibility to allow them to be contributing members of society. We support immigration and believe it is an asset to our province, needed for population growth and for a sustainable workforce. NL Alliance will support programs for immigrants such as ESL programs to provide fair opportunity to be successful.

As an Alliance for all citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador, we acknowledge the horrendous atrocities committed through colonialism and the resulting social, economic, and cultural issues that various Aboriginal groups throughout the province presently face. As such, it is of vital importance to NL Alliance that we continuously work alongside these aforementioned groups to ensure that concerns are addressed, and that reconciliation is achieved and maintained.

NL Alliance believes in fostering a culture that provides opportunities for all citizens. We believe diversity makes us stronger. We want to empower citizens to reach their fullest potential. Every person residing in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador deserves respect, acceptance and inclusion regardless of gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, ethnicity or religious beliefs. We believe in respect for all.
